Valentine’s Day is marked as the biggest hallmark holiday of the year, a greeting card anniversary that shines a bright light on the love we share with another. But for our happily single sisters, or women who choose to boycott this annual tradition, at FIENA, we see you.
After all, every day of the year is a day to celebrate love, why reserve one day out of 365 to rejoice in celebration of heartfelt loving connections? So for the rebellious romantics who are trading off their blooming bouquets for a night with their girls, we’ve collated a list of our top 10 gal-date suggestions to try in London this February.
1. Sing-a-long at the movies
The Prince Charles Theatre in Soho has gained its accreditation in the cinema hall of fame for hosting the best all-night sing-a-longs to featured classics. This month you can catch The Sound Of Music or The Rocky Horror Picture Show with dress up and singing encouraged. Is there any better way to see a movie with your bestie?
2. Try out a burlesque class
Embrace your inner feminine with the woman in your life at a beginners burlesque dance class! Burlesque is an empowering art form that embodies creative expression while embracing female sexuality. FIENA will be hosting a very special class with international burlesque performer Tempest Rose this February at Pineapple Dance Studios. You can find out more here.
3. See Tina Turner at the Aldwych Theatre
There is nothing quite like a few power ballads, and the story of a sensational diva to get you in the Galentine’s Day mood. Quoted by The Guardian as the tribute that will “leave you breathless”, this is a perfect night out to embrace the unparalleled influence of one of the greatest female singers of all time, and unleash the inner diva within us all.
4. A night in, manifesting
Not all girls nights have to be out on the town. Why not grab a bottle of your favourite bubbles, order in, and get manifesting your dreams of 2023! Mood Boards are a great way to inspire your inner-creative, while setting intentions for the year ahead.
5. Go and see some live jazz
Book you and your bestie tickets to a night of soul-uplifting jazz. London is a hotbed of up-and-coming jazz stars, so you’re never short of places to go. If you’re new to jazz, we recommend Ronnie Scott’s in Soho, one of the most acclaimed jazz bars in the world. Known for hosting some of the most influential songstresses of their time, they’ve held the stage for the likes of Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald, to name a few.
6. Go out for a dinner date
Book you and your bestie(s) a table at one of your bucket list restaurants. London is filled with some of the finest world cuisine, so you’ll never be short of places to tantalise your tastebuds! FIENA will be hosting our very own Galentine’s Day dinner for members at Circolo Popolare, a sunny Sicilian trattoria in the heart of Fitzrovia, who doesn’t want a bit of Italian sun and a glass of red in the city?
7. Cocktail making class
Fancy your hand at mixology will sipping a margs with your fave babe? Cocktail making classes are a great way to learn the art of the shaker, while being guided by the great aperitif alchemists of the city. We recommend Mixology in Soho who host regular classes, you can check them out here.
8. A late night gallery trip
Get cultured with your bestie enjoying a night of art and entertainment at the Tate. This February, the Tate Modern will be hosting a very special “Late at the Tate'' celebrating artist and feminist, Magdalena Abakanowicz. You can expect live DJ’s performances, talks and workshops celebrating art, the avante-garde and modern textiles. This event is free to book on the Tate’s website.
9. Bathe in sound
Galvanise your sisters and immerse yourselves in a soothing night of sound healing. Get snuggled under a blanket and be transported to a place of deep relaxation together, what a holistic way to say I love you. 10. A trip Dopamine Land
